In the flood affected areas of North Karnataka

In August 2019, I went to Mudhol block of Bagalkot district in North Karnataka. One week back, there was a massive flood of about ten feet in that area. I went there without any mask in such epidemic situation, i felt suffocated while breathing, it was totally a different experience for me. People left their homes overnight, took their essentials and took shelter in near by schools. The flood water had receded but there was still an epidemic threat so the entire village was empty. All the villagers were staying temporarily in a nearby relief camp. People now had nothing to lose. When the situation in the village back to normal and people started returning to their homes, we brought the villagers together and told them about GOONJ "RAHAT" program. At the same time, we talked to the villagers and carried out a mass cleanliness drive in the entire village because of the garbage and pestilence on all sides. The people unitedly undertook the task of cleaning and in return they were given relief kits by GOONJ keeping in mind their needs.
